The Asinabka Film & Media Arts Festival is excited to announce their 2016 festival programming, screening the best in Indigenous film from Canada and around the world. 

This year's festival takes place over 5 days, and includes their traditional opening night outdoor film screening on the beautiful Victoria Island, 2 evenings of film in the Theatre at the Canadian Museum of Nature - Musée canadien de la nature, a Gallery Crawl with 2 art openings at Gallery 101 & Galerie SAW Gallery, as well as Matinee Film Screenings, a Midnight Film Screening, live contemporary Indigenous music, and a family-friendly film screening on their closing night outdoors in the SAW Courtyard.

HIGHLIGHTS:

• Opening Night Outdoor Screening of “Fire Song” with filmmaker Adam Garnet Jones and lead actor Andrew Martin in attendance, co-presented with the Ottawa Capital Pride

• Film programs at the Museum of Nature Theatre with International Documentaries, International Dramatic Shorts, 7 Sami Stories Film Program, Experimental Shorts Program, and their Midnight Screening of alternative and quirky films 

• A Screening of the feature dramatic film “Chasing the Light”, with director Blackhorse Lowe in attendance!

• A Music Night featuring Canadian and International Indigenous artists - Rise + Silla, Dio Ganhdih, Ziibiwan Rivers, Gentlemen Soundgoods, Lyle Odjick, The Handsome Savages, VJ Paradise + guests

• A Maori Film spotlight with curator Leo Koziol in attendance, co-presented with the Wairoa Maori Film Festival 

• A Masterclass lecture with Deborah Walker-Morrison titled "Our “Own” Images: 30 Years of Maori Fiction Film", presented in partnership with SAW Video Media Art Centre

• A Gallery Crawl, with a chartered bus between SAW Gallery and Gallery 101, with a solo Art Exhibition Opening by multimedia Inuit artist Geronimo Inutiq, and Neon NDN, an Indigenous Pop Art Show curated by Jocelyn Piirainen, featuring artists Kent Monkman, Sonny Assu, Tanya Linklater, Alison Bremner, Steven Paul Judd, Natasha Keating, + more Local and international artists. 

• An Outdoor Film Screening in the SAW Courtyard of animated family-friendly films from the Inuit, Mayan, Iroquois, Anishnabe, Haida cultures.
