In 1999, a major evolution in women’s studies came about at the University of Ottawa. What began as table discussions in the mid-1970s among female professors soon evolved into what we now know as the Institute of Women’s Studies. Women from all fields of study, including Professor Caroline Andrew of the School of Political Studies, came together through a shared interest in women’s issues. A political scientist with an interest in feminist scholarship, Andrew demonstrated that political science had important things to say about gender relations, integrating both in the development of the first women and politics course at uOttawa.
